The Center for Environmental Research and Conservation, on the Morningside campus of Columbia University, is an 18,000 sq. ft. facility that occupies three floors. Originally a typical doubled-loaded plan, the center spine of the space was opened to create a sun-lit circulation space that doubles as a lounge and meeting area. By opening the space both horizontally and vertically, we integrated administrative functions, laboratory space and a research greenhouse into a singular facility. CERC embodies many ideas we believe are important. David Kriegel was the Principal-in-Charge for the design of this project. In collaboration with the Stein Partnership.
