Our new residence designed for Communilife, El Rio, continues in construction.
The El Rio Residence is an 11-story building on Boston Road in the West Farms area of the Bronx with a consistent plan on all apartment floors and program space for 65 efficiency apartments for elderly tenants. The lobby, offices, multi-purpose room, lounge, food storage, laundry and resident storage are placed on the first floor and cellar levels. To minimize noise from and less desirable views of the elevated subway, only one line of apartments has windows facing south. Most have views north to the Bronx Zoo and west. Sight lines also take advantage of landscaping created by a residential complex to the north. Funded by HPD, the new structure is configured to accommodate the existing 1901 building occupied by Comunilife. Its small footprint allows existing landscaped areas to be preserved for outdoor activities.
