The interior of this historic brick and stone building included elements designed by Tiffany. The restoration required new heating, air conditioning, lighting, and handicapped access. Gran Kriegel performed a program and feasibility study at SUNY New Paltz for the Old Main building. Old Main is the original campus building, completed in 1908 at what was then Teacher’s College. Plans assisted the 80,000 s.f. building in being totally renovated in response to building code, new program requirements and the need for general refurbishing including classrooms, library, lecture and cafeteria. The Bank Street College of Education includes a k-6 school for children. The Children’s Library serves the school and functions in conjunction with the college. The library project is part of a multi-phased re-stack of the existing 1950s building. The children’s library is shown in the drawing below. Smith Hall is one of 26 major buildings on the Coast Guard Academy’s 103-acre waterside campus.
