The interior of this historic brick and stone building included elements designed by Tiffany. The restoration required new heating, air conditioning, lighting, and handicapped access. This unique and celebrated public building is designated as an historic landmark. The current phase includes a new protective skylight and refurbishment of the existing leaded glass skylight. Particular attention was placed on maintaining site lines and light patterns through the vault. Gran Kriegel architects were responsible for the both interior and exterior restoration of this 1939 courthouse in Queens, NY. Exterior work included roofing, parapets, drainage, stone facing and balustrades. Planned interior restoration included courtrooms and offices. Under a term contract with the New York City Department of Homeless Services, we provided a life-safety upgrade of the historic  250,000 s.f. Park Slope Armory with program space for a 75-bed shelter and a new community recreation center on the former drill floor. Nine landmark warehouses were reconstructed and converted into 80 units of housing with ground floor retail space. The middle of certain buildings were demolished to provide for a common courtyard parallel to the length of the building. Miscellaneous exterior and interior renovation to this Grand Army Plaza landmark. Spiral stairs on either side of the arch provide access for visitors and maintenance personnel to reach the roof. Visitor access is improved, parapet and roofing waterproofed, and interiors refinished. Structural supports for the rooftop sculpture are reinforced.
